Tricky English

English idioms can be a little tricky. One little word can make a big difference in meaning. Here are a few examples:

Breakdown of a breakup

I don’t want to give up on you, but I don’t want to give in to you. You can’t talk your way out of this. Don’t think you can pull that one on me! I’m put off and I’m not going to put up with your put downs anymore.

You really get my back up! You know I’m not a pushover and you can only push me around for so long before I push back. So, back off, because I’m not going to back down.

We keep going around in circles and now we’re back to square one. Unless there’s a breakthrough in this relationship, we’ll have to break it off. I won’t be happy about that. You know I’ll have a total breakdown when we break up. Maybe we’ll luck out and break even emotionally…but what are the odds of that?

To be continued…

Sometimes you just need to call a specialist for a little clarification!
